We offer free tours of the display Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm. To arrange to see the display, guided by one of the Artsadmin team, please email boxoffice@artsadmin.co.uk or call 020 7247 5102 in advance (preferably with 24 hours' notice). The display is located on the second floor of Toynbee Studios, a part of building which is not usually open to the public.

Using forgotten materials such as fluff, discarded scraps of wood and pieces of broken toys, artist Tim Spooner and Year 2 students from Canon Barnett Primary School in Aldgate East have created an exhibition of miniature sculptures that present an alternative view of Tower Hamlets. They embarked on six visits to local places of interest, including Whitechapel Gallery, Brady Arts Centre and Gardners (Spitalfields’ oldest family business), collecting otherwise overlooked materials to create the Monuments of Tower Hamlets sculptures. The children transformed these recycled materials into a series of tiny, delicate sculptures that are made from and respond to their local environment.

Explore this abstract model village of Monuments of Tower Hamlets and interpret them as buildings, natural forms or inhabitants. The exhibition evokes Tim’s fascination with the totemic power of objects and a sense of the specific and the local that they carry despite their mysterious nature.
