Andrea Zimmerman: Estate, A Reverie

7.30pm. £5.

Estate, a Reverie is a spirited celebration of extraordinary everyday humanity. Giving poetic expression to the passing of Hackney’s Haggerston Estate after 76 years, Andrea Luka Zimmerman’s film explores the death of a utopian dream, the reconfiguration of East London's landscape and a group of people who refuse to be defined by economic or social brackets.

Filmed over seven years, with the filmmaker herself having lived on the estate for 17 years, Estate, a Reverie reveals and celebrates the resilience of residents who were profoundly overlooked by media representations and wider social responses. Interweaving intimate portraits with the residents' own historical re-enactments, Estate, a Reverie asks how we might resist being framed exclusively through class, gender, ability or disability, and even through geography.

The screening of the film will be followed by a conversation between Andrea Luka Zimmerman and artist Graeme Miller, exploring their experiences of working with particular communities and sites that have been affected by demolition and regeneration.

Andrea Luka Zimmerman has been shortlisted for the Film London Jarman Award 2015. Estate, A Reverie has been nominated for A Grierson Trust Best Newcomer Documentary 2015.
