Young people aged 16-19 years old work with an artist or artist collective for one intensive week at Toynbee Studios each summer to create collaborative, contemporary performance with a sharing at the end of the week.
The Summer Intensive provides a way for young people and artists to take part in a free, immersive learning experience in contemporary performance practice. Artsadmin’s Education Producer works in collaboration with the selected lead artist to deliver and facilitate the Summer Intensive, concluding with a shared outcome for an invited audience.
We identify and bring together a range of participants who might not usually get involved in contemporary performance practices by making connections with local organisations, delivering a series of introductory workshops in sixth form colleges and schools and doing an open call online. Participants attend a taster workshop and from there, a core group takes part in the Summer Intensive.
Previous Summer Intensive artists include Bhebhe & Davies (Phoebe Davies and Nandi Bhebhe) exploring movement to camera and Deanna Rodger collaboratively investigating the many ways we perform and edit ourselves through writing and devising.
