Bethnal Green Old Town Hall Commissions

Artsadmin is commissioning a major series of permanent artworks for the Grade II-listed Old Bethnal Green Town Hall, which is being transformed by rare architecture to become Town Hall Hotel & Apartments, opening in spring 2010.

In 2009 Artsadmin ran an open submission scheme inviting expressions of interest from visual artists making work within the last 10 years, based in the London Boroughs of Hackney, Tower Hamlets or Newham.

Town Hall Hotel & Apartments will feature work by the commissioned artists Bálint Bolygó, Debbie Lawson, Peter Liversidge, Claire Morgan, Zoë Mendelson and walkwalkwalk, who were selected by a panel comprising 2007 Turner Prize shortlisted artist Zarina Bhimji, artist Frances Scott, rare architects Nathalie Rozencwajg and Michel da Costa Gonçalves, Artsadmin’s Director Gill Lloyd MBE, Manick Govinda, Nikki Tomlinson and Iwona Blazwick OBE (Director, Whitechapel Gallery) from an initial 176 applications. Artsadmin is curating and managing the installation works in collaboration with rare, to be launched in summer 2010.
