Weekender: Dickie Beau

10.30am-5.30pm both days. £60.
Please make sure before booking that you can make the dates as we will not be able to issue a refund less than two weeks before the Weekender.

This Weekender will look at techniques and rituals used in physical preparation for performance. It will also look at the background to Dickie Beau's practice and to what traditions it owes its existence, including drag, clowning and physical theatre; how research feeds into his performance-making, and the ways in which research material can be absorbed, modified and then re-membered.

Exploring a range of physical states will offer an experiential window into Dickie's work, illustrating how ideas around role of the body as a live performing archive operate in the work.

Dickie Beau is a queer clown and drag fabulist, looting a range of performance traditions from “low culture” to “high art” in the creation of distinctive performance experiences. The principle shtick for which Dickie has been gaining notoriety in recent years is as a pioneer of “playback” performance: the uncanny embodiment of found sound – a style of performance that emerges from the drag tradition of lip synching.
